HOW TO GET TO US

🚗 Travelling by Car

There’s multiple car parks near the meet, including John Lewis, Princesshay and Northernhay Street. The city centre area is easily accessible by road. Park and ride is also an option, with multiple options around the city. 

• Honiton Road P&R is very close to J29 of the M5, near the end of the A30 from South Somerset. It is served by routes 4, 4A, 9, 9A, 44 and 44A.

• Sowton P&R is adjacent to J30 of the M5, not too far from Crealy. It is served by route PR1, which runs limited-stop to the city centre.

• Matford P&R is directly South of the city, near J31 of the M5, and is the most suitable for those travelling from the southwest. It is served by bus route B. 

🚌 Travelling by Bus

Multiple long-distance bus routes head to Exeter, a majority of them serving the high street or bus station, both of which are closeby to the meet.

• Route 1 serves Collumpton via Broadclyst and runs every 15-30 minutes.

• Route 1A continues from Collumpton to Tiverton via Halberton and runs hourly.

• Route 2 serves Newton Abbot via Starcross, Dawlish and Teignmouth and runs every 30 minutes.

• Route 4 serves Cranbrook via Clyst Honiton and runs every 15 minutes.

• Route 4A serves Exeter Airport via Heavitree and runs every 35 minutes.

• Route 5 serves Crediton via Newton St Cyres and runs hourly.

• Route 5A continues to Okehampton via Hatherleigh and runs every 2 hours.

• Route 5B continues to Barnstaple via Bideford and runs every 2-3 hours.

• Route 5C continues to Chumleigh via Lapford and runs every 2 hours.

• Route 7 serves Dartmouth via Newton Abbot and Totnes and runs hourly.

• Route 9 serves Honiton via Sidmouth and runs hourly.

• Route 9A serves Seaton via Sidmouth and runs hourly.

• Route 38 serves Plymouth via Buckfastleigh and runs every 2-3 hours.

• Route 39 serves Newton Abbot via Bovey Tracey and runs hourly.

• Route 44 serves Honiton via Ottery st Mary and runs hourly.

• Route 44A continues from Honiton to Axminster and runs every 2 hours.

• Route 55 serves Tiverton via Silverton and runs half hourly.

• Route 57 serves Exmouth via Topsham and runs every 20 minutes.

• Route 66 serves Okehampton via Pathfinder Village and runs every 2 hours.

• Routes A, B, C, E, F, H, I, J, K, P, R and S run city local circular routes. Please check local bus maps (bustimes.org/map) for more information.

• Route FAL is the Southwest Falcon, joining Bristol, Bristol Airport, Taunton, Tiverton, Exeter and Plymouth. These stop at Honiton and Sowton Park and Ride. These operate every hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Most bus fares are capped at £3. City local routes (or short journeys on long-distance routes around the city) are likely to be capped at £2.20. The £3 bus fare cap does not apply on the Falcon, as this is ran by Megabus, however, on the Falcon, you can turn up and pay via card or cash.

Numbered bus routes terminate at Exeter Bus Station. Lettered city local routes serve the high street. Routes H and K serve Exeter Central station and Northernhay Gardens directly.

Other services operating around the county connect to buses towards Exeter (such as Ilfracombe to Barnstaple or Bude to Okehampton).

🚄 Travelling by Train

The closest station to the meet is Exeter Central (EXC).

• If you’re travelling from or through Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Tiverton or Bristol, take an express to Exeter St David’s and change for a local direct towards Exmouth or Exeter Central. Frequency differs depending on origin.

• If you’re travelling from or through Barnstaple or Okehampton, trains run direct to Exeter Central every hour.

• If you’re travelling from or through Paignton, Torquay, Teignmouth or Dawlish, trains run directly to Exeter Central, reversing at St David’s, every half hour.

• If you’re travelling from or through Exmouth or Exton, trains run directly to Exeter Central every half hour.

• If you’re travelling from or through Salisbury, Yeovil or Honiton, trains run directly to Exeter Central every hour.

• If you’re travelling from or through London, you can either take a GWR service from Paddington to St David’s and change for Central, or a SWR service from Waterloo direct to Central. SWR is cheaper, but takes longer.
Please note, if your ticket says it is valid ONLY to Exeter St Davids, you will NOT be able to take a connecting service to Central. The walk is fairly long, and mostly up steep hills, so it is advised you take bus route H or K from the forecourt at St Davids. Both of which run to Central Station and Northernhay every 15-20 minutes.

✈️ Travelling by Plane

Exeter airport is fairly close to the city, and is served by Loganair flights from Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Jersey, TUI and Ryanair flights from Central Europe, KLM flights from Amsterdam, Aer Lingus flights from Dublin, and the Isle of Scilly air link.

Bus route 4A connects the airport forecourt to the city centre every half hour. Alternatively, Cranbrook station is a short walk away and has train connections to Central Station every hour.

The next nearest Airport will be Bristol International Airport. They have flights from Scotland and Ireland, and also cover overseas flights as well. The airport is covered by the Southwest Falcon bus at the on-site bus terminal, which will take you to Exeter.

🛳 Travelling by Ship

Brittany Ferries runs frequent daytime and overnight services from St Malo (France), Roscoff (France), and Santander (Spain) to Plymouth Port. From there, you can get a train to Exeter St David’s, and change for Exeter Central, or take a bus to the city centre. (Hey, we’ve had overseas people before, don’t mock the logic!)

🚶 Getting to the Meet

If you’re travelling by train, to Exeter Central, disembark through the western exit, at the side of the station with canopies. Once out of the building, turn left, cross the small side road, and turn left again into Northernhay Gardens.

If you’re travelling by bus (to/from the bus station), turn right from the bus exit to Cheeke Street, then left onto Sidwell Street. Continue on Sidwell and onto the high street, and turn right onto Queen Street just before the M&S. Continue down Queen Street until just before the station. Turn right into Northernhay.

We usually meet by the War Memorial, around the centre of the gardens. Please don’t confuse this with the Stafford Henry Northcote statue on the other side of the gardens. If it is wet, we will congregate under some very thick trees just down from the War Memorial – you’ll see where we are easily. 

The current venue we use is Exeter Community Centre. If you miss us at the gardens, you can get to the community centre by heading down from the gardens, through the western gate (by Central Station), cross across to Northernhay Street, then right onto Lower North Street, BEFORE crossing under the bridge. After the street merges with the end of the bridge, cross the road and the venue is on the left.

We usually have the Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the venue, but it is advised you check beforehand, as sometimes we are allocated a different room.
